How to Get Publicity Right Now
The dominant story in the news for awhile has been the economy. If you're like me, you're probably getting weary of all the economic bad news. However, because the media continually look for fresh ways to tell the story of our nation's economic crisis, it can provide a PR seeker with an opportunity.
Tie into the big story
I recently read a newspaper article about animal shelters experiencing an increase in pets being given up for adoption, because of people losing their homes and moving into rentals. Has the economy impacted your business in an unusual way? A drop in revenue would be expected, but what about an increase in sales of a particular item or service you didn't expect? Have your employees done anything unusual to help you weather the storm? Or, are you one of the lucky ones and your business appears to be recession proof? Can you share advice?
You should have a particular media outlet or reporter in mind when you brainstorm ideas. Test your story with friends and colleagues to see if they find it interesting. If you get lots of positive feedback, make your pitch. Good luck.
