When Waiting Is a Good Idea
Last month I discussed how the middle of summer can present public relations opportunities. This issue I'm discussing an opposite situation. We're currently in a very busy news time -- the fifth anniversary of September 11, the anniversary of hurricane Katrina, the start of the school year, and campaign coverage for the November elections will grow.
I recommend careful evaluation before issuing that press release or pitching a story right now. Postponing maybe wise, unless your news is urgent, related to current events, or is time sensitive.
Plan Now For the Slow Times
As I discussed in an issue last year, the end of the year holiday season can provide public relations opportunities. Now is the time to evaluate your organization's accomplishments and new initiatives to determine if you have a good story to tell. Holiday related PR events and activities are best thought through ahead, instead of waiting until the season is here.
